A prince belonging to the local Kottayam royal family, he was very well supported by Kurichias, the tribal people. They formed the bulk of his army. The rebel prince caused a serious setback to the British. Removing him at any cost became a priority for them.
It was declared as a protected monument by the Government of Kerala in the year 1980. The Pazhassi Museum was inaugurated in 2010. In the year 2013, the Pazhassikudeeram Museum was declared as the District Heritage Museum, Wayanad.
By bribing someone in his inner circle they ultimately came to know about his whereabouts. Then the troops were able to surround him in the jungle. There are different opinions about how he died. Some say he poisoned himself to prevent capture while others say he was killed in combat.
