The Temple of the Reclining Buddha, officially known as Wat Pho, is one of Bangkok's oldest and most significant royal temples, located directly south of the Grand Palace.
Its main draw is the colossal Reclining Buddha statue, which is 46 meters long and 15 meters high, covered entirely in shimmering gold leaf. The statue depicts the Buddha in his final pose before entering Nirvana, or ultimate enlightenment. A unique feature is the statue's feet, which are beautifully inlaid with mother-of-pearl, illustrating the 108 auspicious characteristics of the Buddha. Visitors often drop coins into 108 bronze bowls behind the statue to make merit.

The revered Emerald Buddha (Phra Kaeo Morakot) is Thailand's most sacred religious icon and is enshrined within Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha), located on the grounds of Bangkok's Grand Palace.
