Mother Eliswa was a prophetic person. Living in a particular historical situation, she became an authentic interpreter of the same and a beacon of light to all who were in need of the right direction. She did not agree to accommodate herself to the usual ways but transcended them and dared to take unusual but right steps in order to let God intervene in the situation very powerfully. She was a person of vertical orientation, a person of deep prayer and openness to the Spirit.
She was an epitome of simple, humble, obedient and selfless service. She was a person filled with the warmth of compassion and sense of justice. Her dynamic faith and daring hope blossomed into the active love for the poor and the marginalized. Her deep prayer life transformed her into a person of heroic virtues.
Eliswa grew up in this pious family as an affectionate and responsible child. Her life was charged with an instant and unquestioning obedience to her parents and an uncompromising devotion to the God Almighty. She had received more than adequate training in saying family prayers and in reading spiritual books.
Thus, she was reared in a wholly Catholic atmosphere of love, peace, joy, patience, kindness, and goodness. From her early childhood, she had shown the admirable qualities of fellow-feeling, modesty, and mildness and above all, she was extremely God-fearing. All these good qualities progressed as she grew up.
